Didn't have possibility to make photos but very distinctly saw white cheeks. After dinner went onto north locality of Shelek. The landscape is semi-desert. On desert groves of djida (russian olive) grow. Birds on djida are not so much as on winter but some birds I saw. New Square (Republic Square) in Alma-Ata is one of my favourite places. There are not so much parks, squares in my city where it would be possible to observe birds. The Republic Square was one of few places where it was possible to see still someone birds except for sparrows and crows. Now construction has begun here. I do not know will birds use this place on migration paths. Now base migration hasn't begin and I today I saw only habitual winter birds – Great Tits, Blackbirds, one Goldcrest, Bramblings, White-winged Grosbeaks. Had a glimpse of a small greyish bird with the expressed light supercillium probably one of Accentors. [...... read more ]

The Mallards have arrived. The ice has not descended yet from small lakes and ducks (30-40 birds) basically are fed on even rare green grass. Except for ducks saw singing Corn Buntings (approximately 20-25 birds). Corn Buntings gather on 3-4 birds on each tree but only one bird sings. Other birds - Kestrels (2 birds), Sparrowhawk (2 birds), Long-legged Buzzard, Pheasant. The Pheasant walked about in two meters from cars. [...... read more ]
