The day was cloudy and snowy in afternoon. I again watched the same Alpine Accentor which I saw in last year December. I'm sure it's the same bird because unlikely there is another absolutely trustful bird. I noticed Accentor when it explored the snow under the spruce-trees for food, and didn't find anything it flew off to the distant spruce-tree. I waited when the other people go out and put the wheat on the compacted snow. Accentor came back about ten minutes later, and actively pecking the wheat for 30-40 minutes. I photographed it so close that sometimes it did not fit into the frame. When I fast moved the Accentor flew off but then making a circle returned to the same location or flew into the lower branches of the next spruce-tree. All the time while I was sitting under the spruce and was shooting the Accentor, about one dozen Magpies were waiting me. And when I departed the Magpies immediately came flying to search the food remains, but found nothing were also peck the wheat. When [...... read more ]

Yesterday evening I watched the perched in the niche of City Hall Peregrine Falcon which probably was going to stay to night. Today I tried to find it but didn't find. But I found quite a large flock (about 20-25 birds) of the White-winged Grosbeaks. It was surprised that Grosbeaks ate the acacia seeds. Earlier I didn't see Grosbeaks feeding the acacia seeds. I watched feeding on the birch-tree the little (5-6 birds) flock of Red-fronted Serins, one male White-winged Grosbeak, Peregrine Falcon on the building of City Hall. Falcon caught the victim (probably Pigeon) and parted it on the niche of the building. I didn't make any good quality photos because the weather was very cold and misty. Probably Falcon hunted in the vicinity of City Hall because there was the mist and the Peregrine's high fly was meaningless. [...... read more ]

Today and yesterday night I saw the Owl. Owl perched not on the spruce-trees but on the sawn branches of trees. When I closed the Owl flew from tree to tree therefore I didn't shoot it. [...... read more ]

Yesterday night I walked on the Republic Square and saw the Rooks and Crows flushed from the birch-tree and flew out to the darkness. I thought it possible the Owl flushed resting or probably sleeping Crows. Tonight I again saw worrying Crows and then the Long-eared Owl. Owl behaved quite an easy, from time to time flew from place to another one, choosing to perch either the tops of spruce-trees or sticks. All the time Owl stayed the same territory. There were not Crows, so probably Owl hunted to rats. [...... read more ]

The city was misty but the weather in the mountains was very sunny. Birds were a bit; three Grey-headed Goldfinches, three Great Tits, one Azure Tit; usually numerous Carrion Crows and Magpies today were in a single number; only one or two second I watched two Crows pursued the little pale raptor (probably Kestrel or Sparrowhawk); on the river I watched White-bellied Dipper; the pair of Cinereous Vultures firstly rounded over the pine grove then flew out to the West. That's all. [...... read more ]

Sparrowhawk came flying and scared the flock of Siskins. Siskins circled and were going to come back to the same tree. But Sparrowhawk was here! Siskins scared again and flew out forever. But Sparrowhawk stayed on the birch-tree about 10-15 minutes. It's very strange to me that Siskins came back to the tree where they was scared by the Sparrowhawk. [...... read more ]

Warm and sunny day. The berries on the trees were already eaten, but were many catkins on the birches. I watched Great Tits, Hooded Crows, Blackbirds, Bramblings, Chaffinches, House Sparrows, Rooks, Mynahs, Pigeons and one Robin. Robin were searching food under the spruces, picking up thuja's seeds from the snow. [...... read more ]

Warm and sunny day. The tour to Three-toed Woodpecker. I didn't see and hear Woodpecker but I knew the history of the tallow which I hung on trees. So the food I hung and scattered were eaten during at maximum 5 minutes by the Magpies which permanently watched all the rested visitors of the gorge. I understood it's impossible to attract Woodpecker to the tallow. On the road I saw two White-bellied Dippers and one Azure Tits. [...... read more ]
