After dinner time. A bit of the birds on the road. Interesting meetings were only one Little Grebe and group of four Egyptian Vultures, soaring above the rocks. It's interesting that all Vultures were adult. [...... read more ]

Varzob Botanical Garden is very little and places in the branch gorge of the large Varzob gorge. Through the Botanical Garden the path follows to the mountains. Today I have walked by this path some hours. The day was very hot more than 43 C degrees. All birds have tried to keep close in the shadow. I haven't found any birds on open places. I have seen birds only in the shadows of large trees mostly walnuts. Spotted Flycatchers, Streaked Laughingthrushes, Oriental Turtle Doves and Blackbirds were most visible birds. Laughingthrushes, Doves and Blackbirds prefer to be near little springs with wet sand. Once I have seen Whistling Thrush, once have heard Treecreepers, twice saw unknown Warblers and once have seen White-capped Bunting. In the walnut grove I have been about one hour. During this time I have seen several Blackbirds, two White-winged Woodpeckers, two Turkestan Tits, one Yellow-breasted Tit and juvenile unknown Redstart. Also I have seen Woodpecker on the back way. At the river I saw Spotted Flycatchers, Grey and Masked Wagtails. All birds feed up juveniles. From time to time Wagtails flew out and started to flew by pairs. Adult Flycatchers were more active that juveniles ones. Juvenile Flycatchers are very light and behaved passively, mostly sat on stones. Adults ones behaved as usually but sat not on branches but on stones. Here at small river adult Pied Wheater fed up juvenile one. In rocks Rock Nuthatches occurred. These birds always active and now fed up juveniles too. Today I saw Nuthatch hollowed the stone by the beak. In gorge on a nut tree I saw one Wood Pigeon. As soon as sun rise Red-rumped Swallows and European Bee-eaters appeared. Some later soaring dark morph Long-legged Buzzard appeared. When Buzzard flew up to the slope another one (probably juvenile bird) flew up towards it. Received food juvenile sat down to the rock but adult Buzzard departed. I discerned the sitting bird by the binocular. Buzzard was very dark almost black color. [...... read more ]

Vakhsh river from Nurek to Baipaza spreads widely. There is not valley of the river but along the coast it's a lot of greenery. The landscape is rocks. At the Nurek in a gulf I saw two Coots. On wires Laughing Doves, one European Turtle Dove, Rollers sat. Further birds were a much, but the number of species was very limited. I saw three Pied Wheaters, three Rock Nuthatches, about six Spotted Flycatchers, but mostly I saw only European Bee-eaters. At last I well beheld and even photographed Paradise Flycatcher. A bird wasn't very wild. Nearby children amassed brushwood but Flycatcher almost did not pay to them attention. But on shouts of children the bird flew on the next tree. As well as common Spotted Flycatcher Paradise one preferred to keep to the bottom branches. [...... read more ]

Trip on two regions of Khatlon oblast to the waterfall. Road to the south from Dushenbe mostly passes by the asphalt. But birds on the “asphalt” places weren't visible. Beginning from Vose road turns from the main way and crosses foothills and rivers watercourses. Nearby Vose a lot of Rollers (both bright adult and dim juveniles) on the wires. The Roller probably is main bird of this place. Other birds were two European and Blue-cheeked Bee-eaters, Crested Larks. Near the little river I saw two Pied Bushchats, one Little Ringed Plover and one Common Sandpiper. Over Khovaling on the clay hills there were a lot of Barn Swallows, sometimes I saw Rollers. Twice I saw Great Grey Shrikes. Main raptor bird is Egyptian Vulture, during two days I saw more than ten birds. Once I saw in one place three roamed Vultures and once one dark juvenile Vulture. And once only I saw Egyptian Vulture sitting on the stones, all other birds roamed in the sky. Except Egyptian Vultures I saw only several Black [...... read more ]

High mountain lake Isakanderkul places not far from Dushanbe but the road is difficult now. On spring and autumn time Iskanderkul as one of the rare large lakes used by the migrated birds as rest place. Now I don't see any bird on the water table. In the poplar forest I saw only Carrion Crow looked very large. A lot of Masked Wagtails on the coast. It is necessary to note Bar-tailed Treecreepers. They are common birds but Treecreepers more hearable than visible. Once I saw Yellow-breasted Tit and once Roller on the slope. It's uncommon to meet Roller in the high mountain. On the bushes some times I met Black Redstart and on spring one Blue Whistling Thrush. Sometimes on the rock slopes the flocks of Red-billed Choughes were observed. [...... read more ]
